Tele/VC Interview in Pandemic ~ Tips from Recruiters to be successful

Many are finding these VCs to be more easier and effective than in-person interviews. In this way, they can maintain proper social distancing and can be safer at home. But there are differences that VC interviews have from the telephonic interviews and a few tips can help you ace the VC interview as a veteran candidate.  So, here are some useful tips to improve your performance while attending telephonic/VC interviews:

Tips for attending Telephonic interviews:

Ø  Be in the proper network zone to avoid any interruptions as it results in breaking the momentum while conversing over the call. Keep a network reserve and practice contingency of switching over to another network if in case a network is weak or out.

Ø  Please take the interview call from a quiet place to avoid any distractions; this would help in concentrating on the conversation in a better way.

Ø  Have all the notes/material like resume, Job description, company’s profile etc. handy before the call; this will help in remembering the things better.

Ø Consider making small notes from your resume and JD and you can refer to those during your interview.

Ø  You can even get a mock interview conducted by any of your friends or family members and record the same to check on the tone and rehearse your answers.

Ø  Turn off call-waiting or any other interruptions to avoid any disturbances.

Ø  Keep smiling during the interview so that the interviewer can hear your enthusiasm.

Ø  It would be better to dress professionally while attending the interview call as this will help in boosting the confidence.

Ø  Be polite & professional during the interaction.

Ø  Follow-up with THANKS.

Tips for attending VC/Google Meet//Zoom/Microsoft Team interviews:

Ø  Dress professionally and be well- groomed while appearing for a VC interview. This helps in boosting your confidence and also creates a good impression on the interviewer.

Ø  Be in a proper network zone to avoid any interruptions during the interview.

Ø  As far as possible, take the interview call on a PC screen instead of mobile which has a smaller screen and adjusting could be an issue.

Ø  Study about the company, Job description and your resume well before the interview and keep your queries/questions ready as you do in an F2F interview.

Ø  Avoid holding the VC equipment in hand and set up them at a proper place and height, so that you can fully concentrate on the discussion.

Ø  Check your equipment like laptop/phone/headphones/earplugs beforehand to avoid any chaos during the interview.

Ø  Don’t sit in a large chair with a back that takes up as much screen space as your face. Go with a low-backed chair that doesn’t creak when you move.

Ø  Be careful regarding the background while attending the VC interview. It should be neutral.

Ø  Avoid any direct backlighting and usage of fluorescent bulbs.

Ø  Speak at a natural pace, not too fast or slow and smile when appropriate and communicate friendliness through facial expressions.

Ø  Login about 10 minutes prior; you will be settled from the beginning of the interview.

We hope these pointers will help you to get one step closer to the job.
